Northwest Arkansas Medical Professionals Participate in National Lung Cancer Screening Conference
October 6th, 2017 kicked off the 3rd annual Screening and Care Conference in Washington D.C. According to lungcanceralliance.org, “this conference is designed for healthcare professionals directly involved in lung cancer screening and treatment programs.”
Two NWA medical professionals were invited to come and be a part of this national conference. Dr. Daniel Bradford, Medical Oncologist at Highlands Oncology Group, was invited to sit on an expert panel to give a presentation on “Effective Use of Multidisciplinary Clinical Teams in Screening Programs”. Joanna Thompson, Director of the Center for Chest Care and NWA Lung Cancer Screening program, was asked to be on the planning committee for the third year in a row and acted as the moderator during the conference.
Did you know that northwest Arkansas has a free lung cancer screening program? This program is for anyone who is considered at high-risk for lung cancer. The NWA Lung Cancer Screening Program is supported by hospitals and clinics through northwest Arkansas and was the first free lung cancer screening program in the state of Arkansas.
Why is Being Screened for Lung Cancer Important?
Lung cancer screening is important because the earlier lung cancer can be diagnosed in an individual, the more treatable it is. Through this program 47 early stage lung cancers have been diagnosed. That’s 47 people in Northwest Arkansas whose lives have been saved through this free program.
Are you 50 years of age and can answer yes to any of the following? If so, it is important to call and see if a free screening might be right for you.
- Do you have a long history of smoking?
- Do you have a history of cancer?
- Have you been exposed to occupational or environmental cancer causing substances?
- Does your family have a history of lung cancer?
If you think you may qualify for a free lung cancer screening, call 479-695-0081. It’s quick, painless, completely free, and it could save your life.
